What do blank, null, undetermined, and zero mean?
Last updated: June 21, 2026
Short answer
Blank, null, undetermined, and zero are not the same thing. Null or blank usually means Kernel did not determine a safe value. Undetermined is the explicit uncertainty state when evidence is incomplete or conflicting. Zero should only be treated as a real value when the field definition allows zero.
Check this first
- Which field is blank, null, undetermined, or zero?
- Does the field support an undetermined value?
- Is zero meaningful for this field?
- Does reasoning explain why no value was returned?
- Is the value missing from Kernel or only missing from Account?
What to send support
- Account ID and field API name.
- Current value and reasoning.
- Expected value and evidence.
- Whether this appears on one record or many.
